Friendly vs Stubbington FC
Venue: Crofton School 3G Pitch
Date: 16-8-13
Final Score: CMS 5-4 Stubbington FC
As CMS rocked up at Crofton School a wave of anticipation bristled through the cage that guarded the undefeated CMS and their slightly less clean cut opposition. CMS opted to be keen, full kit wankers and began playing like a side with all the gear and absolutely zero idea!
The first third performance from CMS resembled something that had the combined quality of Titus Bramble and Arouna Kone! The opposition were bang up for this clash and gave their all in every tackle. The only ray of light that CMS could cling to was the fact that they managed to prevent the opposition to nothing but wayward long range shots and deep crosses. Some very questionable goalkeeping gifted Cunningham his first goal and gave CMS an undeserved lead. From there its was all about the precision of a Cunningham cross and a poachers finish from the latest goal scoring sensation Christopher Cleeve! Cleeve is rumoured to being making a run for a striking birth in the absence of the usual front men. A Lambert-esque header from Stubbington FC mad it 2-1 until CMS finally showed some of their potential with a flowing move that allowed the evergreen James Hardy to latch onto a Cunningham through ball and smash the ball home.
Despite the realisation of how terrible they had been, CMS did little to rectify the issue in the second third. 3-1 became 3-2 when Rugge, Cleeve, Hardy and Smart decided to mark each other instead of the 1 Stubbington FC forward who was standing there doing next to nothing. Fortunately for CMS, individual excellence was bailing them out as Sam 'Grant Holt' Smith rifled a low drive into the bottom corner despite spending the entirety of the game somewhat abandoned by his teammates. CMS welcomed physio Ken Dowell into the team and despite showing some good touches he was hindered by having as much fitness as dead buffalo.
The final third saw a change of goalkeeper as Rugge took a stint. This unfortunately seems to mean that whoever the opposition is and wherever the game is taking place, a lob will occur. Said lob came as Rugge bellowed "keepers" only for Cleeve to decide that his own thirst for goals was more important no matter what end it was to take place. 4-2 became 4-3 and Cleeve had his second of the game albeit in the wrong net. Stubbington then began to tire and CMS started to play with more flair and pace. Cunningham broke through for his second and CMS' fifth. As the game was petering to a close Stubbington upped the ante with yet another headed goal to make it 5-4 and the game witnessed a fast paced, action packed finale.
CMS held firm and secured their third consecutive pre season win.
There have been many great Christophers in a number of fields throughout time: Christopher Columbus, Christopher Lee, Chris Martin, Chris Rock and dare I say.............. Kris Akabusi! But tonight, Chris Cleeve and Chris Cunningham steeped up to the mark and did their illustrious name justice!
