AC United vs CMS
Date: 03-11-13
Venue: St Vincent
Result: AC United 1 - 5 CMS (Cunningham 2, Clarkson 2, Smith)
With the game drawing nearer and no referee in place, CMS found themselves looking for Ian 'Mole' Hudson to save the day and don the villainous black. Alas he did not appear.....Or so we thought.
The opposition began with 10 players in blue and one in white which was an interesting take on a Sunday league strip. The one in white was of particular interest. At first glance, due to his 55 years of age, it appeared that Mole had turned up but decided to play for the opposition. On further inspection it appeared to not be Mr Hudson but a jolly old man who proceeded to put James Hardy (who is of similar age) into his pocket for the entirety of the game. Post match photographs caught the ageing midfielder looking delighted with his performance......

CMS began brightly and with all of a minute on the clock, Heinrich took centre stage. What Heinrich may lack in shooting accuracy he certainly makes up for in pace and strength as he burst clear only to be felled with a minute on the clock. Sam Smith picked up the ball in a decisive manner and could be heard muttering under his breath something about "Stop twatting about.....Leave it to pros.....No more charity penalty takers." Smith proceeded to slide the ball underneath the keeper who struggled to get down that low. The remainder of the first half saw CMS control the ball but create about as many chances to score as Mike Smart on a night out humming One Direction songs.
Even though AC United for all intents and purposes were awful, they did create a few opportunities from set plays. All of which were adequately dealt with by new Number 1 Martin Day. He is rumoured to have demanded the number one shirt much like Edgar Davids. HT AC United 0-1 CMS.
The second half was a carbon copy of the first with one significant difference.........CMS looking dangerous in front of goal. The front four of Heinrich, Clarkson, Cole and Cunnigham began to dominate the game and create legitimate opportunities to score, starting with Lewis Clarkson's effort which broke his quite pathetic goal drought. Cunningham then added to his tally for the season direct from a free kick although the goalkeeper has to be questioned.
Clarkson and Cunningham had time to stretch the lead to five taking their tallies to 8 and 11 for the season respectively. Gaffer extraordinaire MJW (often supported/carried by Cleeve and Cole) decided the time for changed had come. MJW was replaced by speed merchant Rugge and new signing Jack Rodwell was replaced by..........oh hello organised substitutions. CMS management showing the efficiency of a double arm amputee putting toothpaste back in a tube. The embarrassment was ended as Cleeve and Scherri entered the fray.
Now there is a rumour flying around that the 4-0 to 4-3 collapse had something to do with the introduction of Chris Scherri. I am not saying this is true but it is more than coincidence! The players were understandably nervous! CMS conceded a late consolation which caused mild anger but no where near the rage Rugge felt when he had actually sprinted, yes sprinted into space only for Clarkson to blaze the ball onto the road behind the goal. Let it be known that I do not have the pace or stamina to make dummy runs.....every run is one where I want the ball!
Final Score AC United 1-5 CMS
As an interesting aside, there were two embarrassing incidents that really have no place in life, let alone Sunday League Football. So some perspective, Martin Cole is influential skipper, assist leader with 13 in 8 games and third on the scoring charts with 5. Matthew Wadham does not have the same statistical prowess but is the gaffer and has RAISED A CHILD........Despite these achievements neither seem capable of taking a simple THROW IN!!!! (no one believes Martin that it wasn't a foul throw)
Both have taken positive action and were seen working on their tekkers on the training ground: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4mf6fsw96k
Your both disgraceful.
UP the CMS!!
Martin Day 7 Needs to remain in goal after a commanding display
Joe Archer 7.5 Gains a .5 for looking like Jack Rodwell
Rich Perry 7.5 Solid enough but rarely challenged by AC United
Sam Smith 7.5 See above comment.
Matthew Wadham 7 16 games unbeaten - doing something right!
Tom Cunningham 7.5 CMS' engine once again
James Hardy 7.5 Always available despite being hounded by his age related rival
Martin Cole 8 One word = Linkage!
Stefan Heinrich 7.5 Only blazed a couple over the bar so that's progression.
Lewis Clarkson 8.5* MOM - MOM on the basis that he actually scored for a change
Chris Cunningham 8 - Feed him and he will score
Donald Rugge 7 - Added some much needed legs down the right :/
Chris Scherri 7 - Adequate amount of jink in this cameo
Chris Cleeve 7 - 30 minutes that were as robust as his shin pads
